This is track #3. back to nightingales.
Track 3: Emberlight
we kept the light on
we kept the fire burning
we blocked the door tonight
to keep the wind from getting in
we’ll keep the blankets warm,
for now a cold new world is turning
beside the emberlight
we’ll find the strength
to press our luck again
but listen to our stories in the dark
we’ll tell ‘em brave
and tell ‘em from the start
the first night’s always gonna
be this hard
that’s alright.
just start.
we’ll keep the light on
we’ll keep the fire burning
we’ll block the door tonight
to keep their men from getting in
we’ll keep the blankets warm,
for now a cold, new world is turning
inside the emberlight
we’ll get the strength
to try our hand again
but listen to our stories in the dark
we’ll tell ‘em brave
and tell ‘em who we are
sit and tell us why
you’re pressing on
you know,
start.
keep the light on
keep the fire burning
block the door tonight
to keep their men from getting in
keep the blankets warm,
for now a cold, new world is turning
inside the emberlight
we’ll get the strength
to try our hand again
but listen to our stories in the dark
we’ll tell ‘em brave
and tell ‘em who we are
it’s never over,
not if we can start.
LORE/META
the nightingales’ operation was not successful, so they’re back at camp licking their wounds. regrouping. catching their breath.
during the campaign, some of those in the city saw them. followed them back. joined their ranks. this gives the nightingales the chance to welcome new people into their number.
this track is the ethos of the EP. the nightingales are not real, and their adversary is not real, but what the nightingales stand for—and what their adversary stands for—is.
